There are 2 terminals. The positive batttery terminal is covered by a red plastic housing. The negative terminal is not covered and is connected to the battery with a bolt that is a 10mm wrench. Take the bolt out by turning the wrench counterclockwise. Pull the terminal straight up. Its on the drivers side of the car. I'll make an attempt to answer. You would only have to to replace the battery if your action made a good contact and the wrench stayed in contact. If the contact was of very short duration, like a second then you most likely didn't do much to damage the battery.
The best answer to give you is to see if the battery still works. If you did damage it you have two consequences. You could have totally drained the battery when you shorted it. If the short lasted If the short lasted long enough the large current produced would have caused enough heat to damage the battery. Your also lucky the battery didn't explode. If the large current damaged the battery you will need a new one. The other problem can be fixed.
Then the battery can be recharged. Put the battery on a charger at a high rate for a short time then reduce the rate for a long time. Test the battery by watching the voltage while you start the car. If the car starts your OK, if the voltage comes back after the car starts.
